When was Tiny born? June 10, 2017
Where does Tiny live? Tiny lives near Apsley, Ontario, Canada
How big was Tiny when he was born? Tiny weighed less than 10 lbs. and was about 13″ tall at his shoulders. He was the size of a cat.
Will Tiny get much larger? The Vet estimates that he will be under 100 lbs when he is finished growing.
Why was Tiny born so small? When Tiny was born and blood work was done on him the Vet found out his liver wasn’t functioning at 100%. This caused his small size even though he was in perfect proportions. We put him on milk thistle drops and then his liver began functioning at full capacity, but he would never catch up in size.
Why did his Mom reject him? In nature, mothers have a sense that something is wrong with their off spring, like birds that will push their young out of nests if there is a problem or they are too weak to survive.
Does he see his mom in the barn? No, I have taken Tiny to the barn but he is terrified and shakes so badly he gets too worked up and just wants to bolt from the barn. I’m sure he has no memory of it, but it is a scary place when he is so small and the only animals he is imprinted on are the dogs and us.
Will Tiny ever live outside? We hope to eventually have Tiny in his own paddock at the barn when we ind him a companion of the same size wither a small micro horse or another really small donkey.
Where does Tiny sleep? For the first few months he slept in a play pen in our bedroom at night and the playpen in the living room during the day, but now he sleeps in our laundry room at night, it is a tile floor with lots of windows and is roughly 10 x 12 in size.
How long did it take to house train Tiny? I started training him before he was 2 weeks old, putting him outside when the dogs went out. By the time he was 2 months old he would go to the door when he wanted out. He was very smart and easy to train.
How do you take Tiny places? Tiny travels in the back seat of my car or the back seat of the truck. We fold seats up and he stands up with a dog seat belt restraint on his harness to keep him from getting into trouble or if ever there was a sudden stop. It protects him as well as us in the vehicle.
What does Tiny eat? Tiny has free choice hay and water as well as a starter foal kibble a banana and part of an apple a day, a few small carrots and a few sugar free treats during the day when training him.
Does Tiny know he is a donkey? I honestly don’t think he does, as he hasn’t been around other donkeys. He doesn’t have the aggression towards dogs like most donkeys have as an instinct, but he isn’t afraid of dogs, he prefers to play with dogs and cats over larger animals. He has a lot of traits of a dog.
Can Tiny swim? Last summer he fell in the pool and automatically started to swim. Horses can swim and that is the same way he swam to the stairs and climbed out of the pool.
What are Tiny’s favorite treats? Tiny loves Cherrios, Frosted Mini Wheats, Arrowroot Cookies and Potato Chips
